As young men, Esau and Jacob’s relationship deteriorated in the pursuit of selfish ambition. Jacob conspired and deceived. Esau hated and threatened. The way of intellectual strength verses the way of raw physical strength. But apart, God blessed them both so much that by the time they made peace, they both could not remain in the land of Canaan together because they both had too much stuff. Esau eventually moved away because, “there was not enough land to support them both because of all the livestock and possessions they had acquired” (v. 7). There is no need for jealousy or animosity between siblings. When God blesses, there is more than enough.
