Genesis 29: The Deceiver Deceived

Jacob fell in love with his beautiful cousin, Rachel. He worked for 7 years to pay a dowry to her father. But on their wedding night, her father sent Rachel’s homely older sister, Leah, into the dark tent. Uncle Laban had tricked Jacob. The deceiver became deceived. Now Jacob understood a little how his brother, Esau, felt. Sometimes God allows us to experience pain similar to the pain we cause others. That kind of experience allows us to develop empathy. And empathy can change who we are and how we act.
