Genesis 21 Waiting on God

“The Lord kept his word and did for Sarah exactly what he had promised” (v. 1). That statement summarizes the nature of God’s relationship with Sarah and Abraham. God made a promise. God kept his word. But in the between the promise and the fulfillment, there was a lot of WAITING. From the time God called Abram to leave his home and promised to make him into a great nation was 25 years (12:1-6). From the time God promised Abram a direct heir through Sarah was over 10 years (15:1-6). It takes faith to overcome the despair of waiting until the Lord keeps his word. Sometimes “have faith” means “wait on God”.
