Abram became vulnerable to God expressing his fear that his inheritance would go to a distant relative since he was childless. Abram’s concern also brought into question God’s original promised to make Abram into a great nation (12:2). God appeared to Abram in a vision and took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then God said, “That’s how many offspring you will have.” And Abram believed the Lord. And the Lord credited his faith as righteousness. God made a promise. Abram believed God. God declared Abram righteous.
People have always become right with God based on faith in God’s promise. Today, God promises to forgive our sins and give us eternal life if we will believe in his son, Jesus Christ. Believe.
