Genesis 14 Tenth

When Abram’s army defeated the King of Elam and rescued Lot and the property of thousands of neighbors, Abram gave a tenth of what he captured to the priest of God Most High. Melchizedek in turn blessed Abram and God Most High, “Who has defeated your enemies for you” (v. 20). This offering marked the first time a specific amount (one tenth) identified an acceptable response to God’s blessing in our lives. Giving a tenth reflects two critical beliefs. One, that God defeats our enemies. And two, that God is the one who makes our lives abundant (v. 23). The victories we experience in life ultimately come from God Most High. We are blessed.
