Over time the Lord observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth. “Everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil.” It broke God’s heart. He decided to judge people for their sins by flooding the earth. One of the most sobering passages in all the Bible. “But Noah found favor with God.” Noah was a man who sought to do the right thing. He “walked with God” (there is that phrase again). Walking with God suggests that Noah sought a relationship with God and his right living flowed out of that close God-connection. God chose to save Noah, his family, and every kind of living creature. So he made a covenant with them—a God-promise to save them. This marks the first time that God saved people with a covenant. Shortly before Jesus died, he offered a “new-covenant” between God and people—an agreement confirmed by his blood (Luke 22:20). We enter into this covenant through faith in Jesus and the covenant he offered. Believe and walk with God.
